About the DISC Test

Created by psychologist William Moulton Marston almost 100 years ago, the DISC system is a simple yet elegant way to describe human emotion and behavior. Marston’s system includes four primary types, which we have updated for contemporary audiences as Drive, Influence, Support, and Clarity. While everyone has all four capabilities, in this theory, each of us tends to rely on one or two of those primarily:

D – Dominance: Assertive, Results-Oriented, Seeks out challenges

I – Influence: Outgoing, Persuasive, Optimistic, People-oriented

S – Steadiness: Patient, Seeks stability, prefers working at a steady, even pace

C – Conscientious: Prefers to work with facts, Accurate, Seeks structure at work & life

The Science Behind It

The science behind the DISC test lies in its foundation on observable behavioral patterns. While the test itself is a self-reported questionnaire, the underlying principles are rooted in psychological research on human behavior and personality. The DISC model draws on the notion that people exhibit consistent patterns of behavior in different situations, and these behaviors can be categorized into the four main styles. The test is designed to provide insights into an individual's natural preferences, communication styles, decision-making processes, and strengths and weaknesses.
